Mi papi y yo
2014, wine corks, wire
Mi papi y yo (who nose who cares) is a meditation on the dichotomy between cultural upbringing and genetic inheritance (Alicia Caticha, 2014). This piece is also an exploration of my own personal relationship with my father.
The sculpture shows the contrast between my nose (left) and my father's (right) and our own identities. For twenty years, he collected the corks from every bottle of wine that he finished. Upon moving out of my childhood home, he gave me a box of more than 300 corks. I constructed the noses using these corks.
